The September Issue: Ashley Olsen Jewelry Trendsetting

Ashley Olsen graces the cover of the September issue of Marie Claire for 2009. If you've picked up your copy, as I have, you will get to read a great interview and see some amazing pictures. It is insightful to read how extremely effortless she makes her everyday clothing out to be--yet how crazily aware fashion gurus and fashion bloggers are about her. Ashley seems like a treasure hunter, like myself--describing a few pieces of jewelry and art as found in pawnshops in NYC and bazaars in Istanbul. Caption of above picture: "TRENDSETTER: Always one step ahead of the fashion curve, Ashley wore her rings high on her fingers." Below are two pieces that quite resemble what Ashley Olsen is wearing above. And yes, I too believe rings worn high on fingers will be popular. If you already have a gold beaded, long chain you can give it a new twist by knotting it like so. If not, Karen Karch has designed this fluid, sparkly choice. This necklace is 50 inches long, and because it was hand-made, knotted between each bead, it can be styled, draped and twisted any way you want. Done in 18k yellow gold and priced at $9500. Ashley Olsen wore a ring on the top portion of her finger--very unconventional and "so-her." Sarah Davida is designing rings with this exact style in mind. Each is custom made to fit you, as well as personalized with words, initials or small sayings. I think the Olsen twins would fall in love with the Davida Cuff Ring, and you will too. You get a 10k yellow gold cuff ring for only $140-147 or a silver version for $42-49. Check out the website for ordering information. Read More

Best Jewelry: 2009 Teen Choice Awards

Although I'm not a teenager anymore, I guess watching the Teen Choice Awards keeps you feeling younger.  Unfortunately almost everyone's jewelry choices were extremely minimal.  I felt Leighton Meester stood out, not only with her dress but her jewelry choices.  The earrings are by designer Cathy Waterman.  I've featured her Love of my Life Collection before, however these earrings worn by Leighton Meester are done in rubies.  Here they are below!      If I were a stylist, I think Elisa Solomon's microphone ring is the best choice for an event like this.  Whether you are a singer first and foremost, or just dream of being on stage singing---this is such a fun find.  I like how diamonds make up the portion you talk into.  It is done in 18k yellow gold and priced at $603. Spotted: Backward Necklace on Ashley Olsen

Ashley Olsen was photographed at the CFDA Fashion Awards on June 15, 2009 sporting an interesting way of wearing a pearl drop necklace--backwards! From the front, I thought she was wearing a simple yellow gold chain that was choker length. Then I saw pictures of the stunning back of the dress and realized she was wearing the necklace backwards. She may have started something here! Looks beautiful...love the dress and jewelry! Read More

Jewelry Lookbook: Ashley Olsen

Something that always interests me is jewelry combinations and how each individual puts together their jewelry for the day.  Ashley Olsen never ceases to amaze and always comes up with some great mixtures.  From what can be seen, she is wearing her Cartier watch, a large black stone ring, and possibly a crowned diamond heart ring.  Not sure what the other rings are! Take a look at some similar choices if you are wanting to achieve this same jeweled look. A crowned heart is a known symbol of love and loyalty. This one is priced at $5500 from Fay Cullen. It is a 1 carat heart shaped diamond set in platinum. A definite necessity in anyone's ring collection. Although Ashley's black stone ring is larger and pear-shaped, this one still gives a similar effect. Designed by Pippa Small, the black stone is actually a Labradorite. I think Ashley's ring is an onyx. The Labradorite is set in 22k yellow gold, found on TWIST for $1685. This is the exact watch Ashley has and was featured in her book Influence. Found the match at AuthenticWatches.com, not sure how reputable this company is, although they have high ratings under Bizrate. It is called the Cartier Pasha Seatimer Men's Steel Watch and sells for $4975 on their website. Read More

Jewelry Style Inspiration: Princess Diana

Totally 1980s, but I love this look Princess Diana is sporting.  The double watches needs to become popular, she makes it look so elegant.  Princess Diana has a style so unique, without looking like she is trying too hard.  She is seen here wearing a gold woven bracelet, which was a popular 80s trend.  Her infamous sapphire engagement ring is on her ring finger, which has 14 diamonds surrounding the oval blue stone.  On her right hand she is wearing a diamond eternity band and a pinky ring which may be a plain gold band or a signet ring.
