Art Deco Style of the Hoover Dam

The Hoover Dam is a well-known tourist attraction and an all-American landmark.  We had to check it out while in Vegas.  I was pleasantly surprised to find out how prominent the Art Deco style was throughout the entire project.  There were elevator doors in all gold, streamlined buildings, Art Deco clock faces, and geometrical motifs.  The statues were influenced by ancient Greek and Roman design, which give the Hoover Dam a temple-like feel.

The bronze sculptures guarding the flags are the Winged Figures of the Republic.  The bronze has weathered into a green patina–but why are the feet a soft gold hue?  That’s because millions of hands have burnished the bronze in hopes that rubbing the feet would bring good luck.  Had to try that out.
