Gem Gossip needs your input!!

As my birthday is quickly approaching, I am continually torn between a circle or a square!! More on that in a minute--but first, I need your input.  The above rings are designed by Zoë Chicco and after much debate on choosing what I want for my birthday, I have decided upon one of these rings.  Shown are three of the spike rings stacked--you can choose either the round version or the square version. I know I like the black onyx, but can't decide upon which shape. Which do you prefer the square or the circle?  [Your input is greatly appreciated!] Read More

Battle of the Bands

Bands are such an important staple in a jewelry wardrobe. Everyday I am reminded, as I search for the right ring combinations to put on my fingers. Just adding an extra band or two makes a beautiful stacked look. I have a whole row dedicated to bands in my jewelry box--yes, they are that important! So, if you are wanting to buy a new piece of jewelry and are wondering what would make a good choice, go for a band! Here is a great selection below! I think a lot of people are obsessed with the studded anything and everything trend--and this ring surely captures that. I love the added diamonds amongst the rich 22k yellow gold. The pyramid-like studs wrap all the way around the band, which is designed by Cathy Waterman. Price: $2110 at TWIST. Love this branch-like band with an opal all done in 14k gold. The ring is designed by Ria Charisse and can be found at Lunessa. Price: $415 The inspiration photo includes a dangle ring, which is great for stacking. I personally have a 14k yellow gold, diamond cut dangle ring, which has a circular gold disc featuring the virgin Mary. The above dangle ring is designed by Yasuko Azuma and has two small diamond leaves. The ring is 14k yellow gold, with some light texture added to the metal. Price: $715 at Ylang|23. This type of band ring is stacked already for you. It is called a rolling ring, which is a popular piece designed by Cartier. Although this is not a Cartier piece, it is just as beautiful and is vintage. The ring is 14k yellow gold, with a total of 2 carats of diamonds. From Lang Antiques and Estate Jewelry, priced at $3350. I like the beaded look of the gold in these bands--each features a diamond which can be white or black. It looks great stacked. Designed by Zoë Chicco, a choice of yellow, white or rose gold is also given. Priced at $316 for white diamond or $272 for black diamond. Read More

Trendspotting: Multiple HOORSENBUHS Phantom Rings

Never too much of a good thing--this applies even more so to HOORSENBUHS' sleek Phantom ring, as I have been seeing it around fingers in multiples.  This is somewhere along the lines of stacking rings, however the idea of wearing the same ring on several fingers is impeccably brilliant.  Speaking of, Mary-Kate Olsen is seen here doing exactly so with her HOORSENBUHS Phantom rings. I like how she uses one that features black diamonds and another which is all 18k yellow gold (no diamonds). The Clover is Over for Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum's jewelry line is being halted due to lawsuits against the clover motif.  World renown jewelry house Van Cleef & Arpels is claiming all rights to the clover.  Not trying to take sides here because I am a huge fan of both parties, but putting claim on a shape?! Really?  Heidi Klum has stated that her inspiration, from day one, has been through travels and observing church architecture in Milan, Italy. I can see her point and totally realize that she was not trying to copy what Van Cleef & Arpels has been doing for years (longer than Klum's jewelry line which has been out for only 5 years).  I, too, was inspired by European churches' architecture--the picture below is from my trip to England in 2006.  It was taken at a church in England, you can see the clover motif here as well.  This picture is a favorite of mine. My Jewel Box: A Couple Family Heirlooms

My sister ALisha and I had a fun time going through our parents' jewelry boxes. My mom's jewelry was more traditional and included many pieces from the 1980s. Since then, she has not really made any jewelry purchases. A favorite piece of hers is an Opal Triplet pendant that she had custom made after purchasing the stone. My dad's jewelry consists of lots of 18k yellow gold chains from Italy given to him from his parents, as well as lots of watches! A favorite piece of his is a Girard-Perregaux watch given to him by his father. Pictured are two pieces from my parents' jewelry collection: my mom's engagement ring, which is a three-stone diamond ring done in a 14k yellow gold bypass style. The ring is crowned on top an owl carved out of soapstone. One of my dad's watches is pictured on an antique blue plate, featuring Andrew Jackson. The plate was found at an old antique shop by my sister--Jackson owned a large plantation and estate near where we live. Read More
