Badassness; Jewelry that Rawks!

A trend that has swept, and will continue to sweep the jewelry industry is the rocker chic look.  There are many names for this type of jewelry/style: goth, biker, rock & roll, badass, etc...  Some designers and celebrities have really made this style mainstream and have done some pretty good things with it.  I think there is always a way you could glam this style up, so that it doesn't look so hardcore.  Of course I've had my eye out for some rocker chic jewelry that I think is the best out there.  Here are my finds: This is a double finger ring. Very impractical to wear, especially when you are trying to type on a computer, but one can't help to feel badass in it. This type of ring has been seen on the fingers of a few celebrities lately, such as stars of "The Hills"--Lauren Conrad and Audrina Patridge. This particular one is a 14k gold curved bar with a tiny diamond, priced at $392. It can be found on the website ZoeChicco, which has an amazing selection of jewelry that will make your mouth water! Of course I cannot talk about badass jewelry without including those skulls! A definite trend, that is still going strong, but can easily be tacky if you go about it the wrong way. With these two pieces, I guarantee you won't overdo it. They are tiny, simple and still look tough. The charm is a baby charm with two tiny diamonds (price $110) from C.H.A.R.M. which is a company that carries...you guessed it...charms! They have the best selection, hands down, and even have an array of antique charms. The ring is a tiny skull in 10k gold from a company that specializes in biker jewelry. It is priced at $140, which is the best price I've seen for a skull ring, and this one is the real deal. I never thought a cross could look badass before, until now. This is such a unique necklace, especially with the opals, but then designer Fatima Maria adds two random diamonds in the mix--I love that! I also like how the cross hangs from the chain like that--so unconventional. This can be found on Twist, and be purchased for $2200. Read More

Setting My Diamond…

I am very excited because I dropped off my diamond today to be made into a ring!  I am having it done at Bell Jewelers in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  The diamond is a 0.60 carat pear-shaped with a fancy champagne color.  It was difficult to decide what I wanted it made into...I decided to go with a 14k yellow gold ring with the diamond in a bezel setting.  It should be finished and ready to be picked up around the beginning of August! Here are a few tips to consider if you have a diamond you want made into a piece of jewelry: .::Consider all possibilities:...ring, necklace, earrings, bracelet...?? .::Bring in pictures or draw pictures: sometimes explaining things doesn't always work out .::Make sure the jeweler is experienced: do your research online .::Use old, broken gold to make a new piece of jewelry: always save old, broken gold The picture I brought in to the jewelry store to explain what I wanted my ring to look like I will let you know how it turns out! Keep checking back for the update! Read More

Estate Finds

This week's estate finds all have one thing in common: they make a bold statement. When you wear pieces like this, you don't need any other jewelry on or else you'll have a mess. There's only one person I can think of that can pull off loads of bold jewelry, and that's Mary-Kate Olsen. Each of these pieces could also be worn day or night. I can picture this bold, enamel cross necklace with a deep plunging, summer top. It would stand out in such a pretty way. It is from 1800s, France and can be found on the website Adin. The company is located in Belgium and they deal with fine estate jewelry, mostly from France. Their selection is always unique and fun to look through. This ring belongs on a hand of someone who is ready to make a statement. I would wear this on my middle finger, with no other rings. It deserves a funky/trendy outfit to go with it--something from Urban Outfitters or American Apparel. It is from Ross-Simons estate collection and goes for $8556, which is actually on sale! The diamond is over 1 1/2 carats, set in platinum with rectangular diamonds as accents and rubies. Another estate find from Ross-Simons is this incredible yellow diamond necklace. It is from the 1900s and the yellow diamond comes with certification. This necklace is bold and looks like royalty. If you have $6636, it could be yours! Read More

eBay: Pick of the Week!

I feel like eBay has been slow this week--maybe it is the economy or maybe it is just me, but this is a good time to make some good "steals" on eBay. In my search, I found two vintage rings, both very different in style, but unique at that! The first one is a 14k yellow gold ring with turquoise stones. It looks like a piece from ancient Egypt! The seller's name is spunkymonky19d80. It should probably do at least $300... The next ring I spotted is such a stunner...0.55 carats in this single diamond, alongside a 1.10 carat blue sapphire. It is 14k white gold and a size 5.5, from the 1930s. I like all the filigree work in the gold--it makes it a true vintage piece. The seller's name is alexanderauctions. Happy bidding to all, and 'lucky you' to whomever bids highest on those! Read More

14k Gold + Glass = Effortless Beauty

At first glance, I didn't even notice the colored "gems" in this jewelry line are actually colored glass.  How neat is that?  The jewelry design team consisting of Jess Panza and Julie Burton have come together to create Verre New York [verre being French for glass, of course!]  Below are a few pieces from the collection which can be purchased online at their website.  And, hey, 10% of all sales goes to charity so you can shop and feel good about it. I like how each and every item on their website can be ordered in either silver, gold filled or 14k gold.  This option is so smart!  I think more designers need to be doing that. Everything is very well priced, especially for the 14k gold items. Anyone order anything from this site? Read More

My shopping experience at Ylang|23

Want a shopping experience like no other? Are you nervous about ordering fine jewelry online? Well, Ylang|23 will make you feel like VIP and treat you right! Earlier this year I had some extra holiday cash and wanted to treat myself. I had been fascinated with Ylang|23's assortment of jewelry on their site for quite sometime...so I thought, why not? When I finally decided to purchase a bracelet by designer Sydney Evan, I noticed it was no longer on their website! I decided to send a quick email about it, but didn't want to get my hopes up. I immediately recieved a response from a friendly sales associate. She had found what I was describing and told me that she would have it ordered. I was even able to get the 7" bracelet sized down to 6.25" at no extra cost! That made my day because it is usually very difficult to find bracelets that can be resized to fit my wrist. The sales associate always made time to serve me as a customer, even if I lived 1,000 miles away! When I received my bracelet, it was wrapped in the cutest packaging and ribbon...I didn't want to untie it! But, I quickly did and was amazed by my purchase. I also received a thank you card. I want to thank Ylang|23 for their great service and beautiful jewelry. My purchase may not have been as pricey as some of the jewels that go for thousands...but you sure made me feel as if mine did! Pictured far above is the white gold, sapphire and diamond lucky eye bracelet that I purchased; designed by Sydney Evan. Directly above are a few pieces from Ylang|23 that caught my eye! Designers are Ten Thousand Things, Gurhan, and Andrea Fohrman, respectively. Read More
