It’s my favorite time of year – sure most people love January because it is a new year and with that comes a fresh start…but I love it because the January Winter Auction from Case Antiques happens right at the very end of the month. It is a sale I always look forward to because it typically includes lots of jewels and this year’s auction does not disappoint! In fact, there are over 100 fine jewelry & watch items, along with antique artwork, glassware, sterling hollowware, decor and much more. The sale will take place in Knoxville, TN and online, where you can bid via LiveAuctioneers or Invaluable.
I’ve put together a list of my top favorite picks for this 2-day auction event, which is set to begin on January 29th, with bidding already up and happening. I suggest browsing their catalog online and noting your favorites and making sure to register before the auction starts. And don’t be intimidated by bidding – it is so simple and easy to do! Here are my top ten picks from the Case Antiques Auction:
Lot 54: I always love searching for charm bracelets at auctions – this one is a particularly excellent find because of how many charms are on it. There are 47 total charms, which is quite a large collection, maybe the most I’ve seen! I love that Case Antiques has examined them all and found that of the charms, 1 is marked “18K”, 29 are marked or test 14K, 7 are marked “10K”, 2 are marked “sterling”, and 8 are gold filled. That is good to know from a buyer’s perspective. Estimate: $3800-4200
Lot 57: This square emerald cut diamond solitaire ring stopped me in my tracks, which normally doesn’t happen with diamonds for me. I think I’m fond of the dimensions of the cut and the culet. This diamond has a GIA certificate which grades it as a VS-2 clarity and G color, coming in at 4.01 carats. What a stunner! Estimate: $40k-44k
Lot 60: Another beautiful solitaire, this time half the size but still considered large in my book – this 2.01 carat round cut diamond ring. At first glance, I had no idea that it features an enhancer wrap-around ring, which gives it a totally different look without changing a thing. This ring comes with a GIA certificate as well, which states it is an SI-2 clarity and I color. Estimate: $9k-10k
Lot 68: I love how diamond tennis necklaces are coming back in style and are very popular right now. If you want to embrace this trend, but make it your own — this diamond Rivera necklace is a perfect option! It is more unique given that it is set with baguette cut diamonds, and what makes it a Rivera style is how it graduates in size (smaller to larger diamonds in the middle). This necklace is set in 18k white gold and is 17″ long. Estimate: $6-7k
Lot 70: Ok, one more big diamond piece because Case Antiques has such a stellar selection of bold diamonds this auction. I had to include this one because it is an Old European cut — a large one at that, weighing 3.79 carats. I am finding large Old Euros tougher to come across lately. This one is also GIA certified, having a SI-1 clarity and L color. It is set in platinum and has a gorgeous, simple setting. Estimate: $12k-14k
Lot 374: Another popular jewelry trend, omega chains, are coming back since being all the rage in the 1980s. I love how this bold necklace is in again. This necklace is truly exquisite and features an emerald and diamond cluster in the center. Another fun feature of this piece is that it comes with an extender, so it can be worn at two different lengths. Options are always important! Estimate: $2800-3200
Lot 388: I love a good star motif and this starburst brooch is spectacular! Set with Old Mine cut diamonds, totaling approx. 4.31 carats and set in 14k yellow gold, this would make the perfect brooch to attach to a blazer or scarf during these chilly months. I love the size of it as well, so it will stand out and not look too small when worn. Estimate: $2000-2400
Lot 845: I’ve been wanting to add some fun and bold earrings to my repertoire this year and I just love these! They check off a lot of boxes for me: Italian, geometric, cabochon cuts and majorly bold. These would be a great buy and I hope to bid on them. Estimate: $600-700
Lot 1098: This might be the sweetest bracelet I’ve ever come across. The delicate florals, the colors, the engraving…so beautiful! It is 14k yellow gold and fits a smaller wrist, so if this describes you, check it out. It would look lovely with a Victorian stack of bangles. Estimate: $600-700
Lot 1133: I’m always on the hunt for lockets and this one has got to be on of the most unique ones ever! From the almost door-knocker style, to the fringe and even the original photo inside…I am smitten. It is 14k yellow gold and looks like it is in incredible condition. Estimate: $350-450
