Macklowe Gallery has been on my list of places of interest to visit when in NYC for a very long time. I’ve attended events where Benjamin Macklowe was a featured speaker and have downloaded a series of informational presentations he did that I was both intrigued by and learned so much from. I was really excited about this visit, as Macklowe is coming up on their 1st year anniversary in their new Park Avenue location and I couldn’t wait to see inside. The interior of their new gallery is both comfy and sophisticated, with areas of art and jewelry showcased along with cozy nooks for meetings. I was particularly drawn to a room in the back that featured shelves and shelves of books, with a table in the center which instantly made me want to put on my glasses and start researching. Their jewelry book library is something straight out of jewelry nerd heaven.
While visiting, I met with Benjamin & Hillary Macklowe, 2nd generation antique experts and owners of the gallery. Ben’s father Lloyd and mother Barbara first opened the gallery back in 1971. Fine antique decorative arts and jewelry has been a part of Ben’s life since he was a young boy, so his passion of wanting to spread as much knowledge onto future generations of collectors is pretty unique. The gallery has been a part of some very notable transactions which include selling pieces to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, The Dallas Museum and the Australian National gallery, among others. More specifically, they sold a Bulgari “coin” necklace to the MFA Boston and a French Art Nouveau “Ombelles” hair comb to the Newark Museum. Most recently, the gallery has taken on a contemporary designer, Neha Dani, who will be exclusively available at the store and who I actually got to meet in person while I was visiting. Neha’s jewelry is quite exquisite (as you’ll see below) as each piece is handcrafted and never duplicated. Another fun treat that happened while I was visiting, I had a chance to see some of Hillary’s personal collection and hear some of the stories behind each piece. We snapped a photo of her jewels to share — it is the photo of the jewelry box insert.
As you can tell from the photos of the jewelry I’m wearing from Macklowe Gallery, they source some of the finest, museum-quality antique jewelry with a specialty in French Art Nouveau. Aside from the jaw-dropping jewels, Macklowe also is home to some rare Tiffany lamps, French Art Nouveau furniture and objects, as well as glassware and much more. Every piece I tried on I absolutely loved, especially the ring stack featuring a rare Art Nouveau opal bat ring. The acrostic necklace that spelled out DEAREST with seven dangling hearts was definitely a dream piece in my book! And the bracelet stack featuring some of the most beautiful diamonds and sapphires — each bracelet is individually amazing, and when worn all together is just epic.

Feminine and often whimsical, each piece of Neha Dani’s jewelry has a rich, deep story, carefully crafted through every angle. Like I said before, each design is highly executed and never duplicated. Just this month Macklowe Gallery debuted Neha’s jewelry with a 55-piece showcase and a dedicated area of the store just for her collection.
