Jewelry Collection of Mariam @hidden.attic ✨. “For me it’s all about the hunt, the chase; I’m not fond of walking into a store or visiting a website that is specifically selling antique and vintage jewellery. Please don’t get me wrong, I AM one of those shops, haha, and of course I value and respect my colleagues and fellow sellers, what we do and how we do it. Many of my favourite pieces were purchased from my wonderful fellow sellers on Instagram! But when it comes to the actual thrill of shopping, the weirder and more unlikely the source, the more I’ll probably love the piece. I love pawn shops—places that are mostly filled with broken appliances and electronics or old dusty guitars, tucked away behind subway stations or in “dicey” parts of the city. Usually they’ll have one small tray of real gold jewellery on display, and sometimes, if you’re lucky, amid the mass-produced junk,
you’ll find a gleaming little historical treasure. It is SUCH a rush when this happens.
I’ll always make a point of doing this in any city I’m in, no matter how short my stay or if I have to venture outside of my comfort zone. So far I’ve executed this mission in dozens of cities around the world, but I would say my favourite places to haunt pawn shops are cities in the United Kingdom, just because of how plentiful Victorian and Georgian-era jewels are.”
