Today’s Jewelry Collection Story comes from Kate of Kate Gold Jewellery. Kate was one of the very first collectors I’ve ever featured here on Gem Gossip – she has always had an incredible eye for jewelry and longtime follower. In fact, I got the opportunity to meet Kate and spend time with her when I visited London several years ago – it was so fun to hang out and talk about all things sparkly in real life!!  Since then, Kate has dove into the jewelry world, making a name for herself with her own antique finds and offering some of the most unique gold charms I’ve ever seen!  She has a website where you can purchase her assortment of fine gold charms and talismans, rings, pendants, necklaces and lots more. Hope you enjoy taking a peek into Kate’s personal collection:

“I’m a little obsessed with finding vintage and antique charms, especially romantic ones. They are often super playful and sometimes you can’t even tell they are love tokens until you open them up and reveal their hidden secrets.

One of my most recent finds is this incredibly tiny, gold and enamel opening lighter charm. It’s hand engraved on the outside and there is a tiny flaming heart on the inside so when it opens it reads ‘My heart burns for you’. I can’t help but fall for these romantic charms! I also have a vintage gold and enamel match box charm that opens to reveal a heart inside, a moving vintage gold calliper ‘love meter’ and a vintage gold pair of sugar tongs enamelled with ‘my sugar’ down one side!”

“I actually have two wedding rings that I wear every day. I have one to symbolise each of our wedding ceremonies as we had a blessing with our family and friends in England and then legally married, just us two, in NYC. One is rose gold to match my Georgian flaming heart engagement ring (a complete surprise pick from my other half!) and the other is platinum and from America which I thought was a lovely nod to our New York nuptials. I really love the contrast of colours and the engraved patterns on each really tie the two together.”

“Over the last few years I’ve also been building this USA inspired charm necklace that symbolises all the places my husband and I visited when we married and went on our honeymoon across the country. I really hope we will be able to explore more places (and collect more charms!) on our travels in the future.”

“I love to go to auctions, although Covid restrictions have made this a little trickier to do at the moment. The buzz of being in the sale room is so wonderful and there’s nothing quite like sitting with your auction brochure all marked up, eagerly waiting for the pieces you have your eye on to come up and then getting stuck in bidding. It’s definitely a ‘you win some, you lose some’ way to buy things (the heartbreak is often very real!) but sometimes you just never know and can be surprised at the pieces that no one else wanted to bid on that you absolutely adore and find for a steal!”

“I always buy pieces that I love first and foremost. This goes for the shop too which can make things a little hard to part with! So when shopping for myself, I don’t particularly look for certain motifs or specific styles as I like to see what I find and fall in love with, but it seems I do have a few favourites when I look in my collection!

I’m really drawn to evil eyes and love when they are worn as protective talismans. I don’t think I ever consciously set out to collect them but it turns out I have quite a few!”
