Have you heard in the news about the huge emerald recently found in North Carolina? It is being said that it is the largest cut emerald to be found in the United States. It was found just 50 miles northwest of Charlotte, in a town called Hiddenite–a mining town, named after a mineral that resembles the emerald, that is quite abundant there. The find is being compared to Catherine the Great’s hexagonal cut emerald brooch which recently sold at Christie’s Auction House. Gem Gossip featured that brooch back in April. So does this make you want to go and hunt for emeralds in North Carolina?
