I had been counting down until this appointment since the day I made my travel arrangements to NYC. Charmco has been a favorite online destination of mine since the very beginning, when I found out about them while flipping and tearing the pages out of Lucky magazine when I was still in high school. Charms have always intrigued me and held a special place in my heart. I think the same can be said by most people, as the heightened sentimentally of charms is unlike any other possession. We buy charms because we feel a connection to them in some way, whether it’s a memory, a moment…they symbolize our lives when words cannot. The mother and daughter duo behind the brand, Leslie and Lisa, tapped into their own love for charms and soon realized they were loved by lots of collectors worldwide.
Charmco‘s showroom is centered in the heart of NYC’s diamond district. Amongst the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood, their space is a quiet oasis with beautiful windows that let in lots of light. Leslie and Lisa have shelves on the wall where full charm necklaces and bracelets are displayed in all their glory. So much charm inspiration in one place! Lisa enjoys creating mini charm collections based on themes of charms they’ve collected that are for sale–for example, for Halloween she put together a spooky-themed necklace that included a black enameled hand, a skull, a spider, a jack-o’-lantern, a devil and many more. Collectors love a good theme and no matter how odd or specific your collection is, Charmco will probably have a charm for you!
An area in which Charmco continues to expand upon is their own line of 14k gold charms which are all made in NYC. They now have over 1000 styles and every piece is made with the same heirloom quality and detail as vintage charms did back in the day. Their newest creation is one of my favorites — it is a lighter that actually opens and on the outside says “Light up my <3”. This charm is cute and playful, which are both necessary for me when I’m seeking out charms.
I also really love their new photo portrait charms where you send Charmco a photo of your most beloved pet or person and they will create a gold charm with your image. This is how you can literally take photos and turn them into gold! So start clicking your camera or searching through your archives!
While browsing, it is important to note and I love this about their website, if the piece is vintage, the word “vintage” will be the first word that describes the item. That way you can decipher between what is their vintage collection and their new charms they produce. They continually add new vintage charms all the time, so checking their website often is a must. One of my favorite vintage charms currently in their inventory is a red enameled heart that says “Love me dammit”.
I’m excited to see what else is to come for Charmco in the future. Of course, I will continue to check their website for new arrivals and I highly recommend signing up for their newsletter (they often offer charms via newsletter subscribers first, before they hit the website). Thanks so much Leslie and Lisa for having me and for all the fun with charms. Happy collecting!
