Endless talk of all things sparkly.

Designer Spotlight: Madhuri Parson Jewelry

A sixth generation gem enthusiast, Madhuri was born to design, which ultimately led her to develop her eponymous fine jewelry brand.  Madhuri’s appreciation for her jewelry heritage was set at an early age.  The designer’s late grandfather exposed her to the art of jewelry making in India.

After years of working for some of the biggest fashion names coupled with studying at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology and the Gemological Institute of America, Madhuri Parson launched her luxury jewelry brand of one-of-a-kind, handcrafted Indian-inspired jewelry with a distinct point-of-view. “My goal is to design with a balance of East and West sensibility combining the best of Old World craftsmanship with chic, understated designs. I saw an opportunity for high-end jewelry that was contemporary yet versatile enough to be worn from day to evening and designed pieces to compliment any outfit for women of all ages.”

Her eclectic mix of Indian tradition and western lifestyle is an endless reservoir of inspiration.  She finds inspiration in her travels, at home, and among nature. Bold colors, sensuous shapes, multicolored gemstones, exquisite Jaipuri enameling are signature aspects of her brand. “I wanted to create a versatile collection that would complement a woman’s complex emotions and demanding lifestyle, while enhancing her individuality.”

Madhuri took her jewelry renderings to India to make her first collection. She spent four months in Jaipur and Mumbai alongside karigars (artisans) handcrafting her pieces. “Working with these artists brought me back to the time I spent learning the art of jewelry making from my grandfather.” Madhuri attributes her success not only to her designs but also to her talented artisans who brought the designs to life.

Below, she takes us through the steps of making the Peacock ring, which is done in 14k yellow gold with multi-colored sapphires:

Step 1: Sort through the multi-colored sapphires.

Step 2: Arrange the chosen multi-colored sapphires in the wax design.

Step 3: Karigar (local artisan) performs his magic and creates the model for the Peacock ring.

Step 4: Model of the Peacock ring, COMPLETE!

Step 5: Peacock ring swivels to allow more than one look.

Step 6: Peacock ring is ready for stone setting.

Step 7: Final stage before high polishing is to hand-set each sapphire in to the designated spots.

Step 8: Ready to be adorned on someone’s finger! Gorgeous.
