We went to Berganza today to have a look at their engagement rings. We were made to feel completely unwelcome, I'm not sure if it was because we were wheeling in our baby first and perhaps the gentleman felt we were doing things the wrong way round, whether we were inappropriately dressed, or just not spending enough money.
He started taking us through the website and selecting rings, and he did bring us a selection to try – I felt that he had a complete lack of interest in anything I had to say and finding us a match. He actually recommended that we go home and look at the website, get reference numbers and come back… In spite of sitting there with his laptop! He didn't offer us the opportunity to go through the rings on his laptop and then he dismissed us and ushered us out of the shop.
I was completely deflated on a day when I should have been excited and eager to shop. We did look in some other windows and spoke to a few other people before going to Diamond Palace on Greville Street where we had a completely different experience. Friendly staff, eager to help us, and paid attention and were polite to and about our 1 year old – she'd been perfectly quiet and patient in Berganza.
Not only did we find the right ring In Diamond Palace, we purchased and walked away with it, plus have certificates for the diamonds, and shared a small bottle of Moët to celebrate whilst waiting for the paperwork to be drawn up. The kind of experience you want when you're making a once in a lifetime purchase.
