New Orleans Auction Galleries Sale Set for January 30th, 2020

New Orleans is my happy place and luckily for me the city is both a quick plane ride or a quick auction catalog browse away! An upcoming auction that I’m excited about is the New Orleans Auction Galleries sale that is set for January 30th, 2020. This auction features 220 lots of fine jewelry, including watches and some handbags & furs. They particularly have some great pieces for Valentine’s Day, with several lots featuring heart-themed jewelry (the pretty kind, not the cheesy kind). The sale starts at 3pm CST and you can sign up to bid through LiveAuctioneers. Be sure to register before the auction date in order to get approved to bid!

Here are my top picks from the sale — let me know your favorites as well!

Lot 13: I’ve raved about bib-style necklaces similar to this exact piece many times and get lots of questions on where to buy similar ones. This necklace will become a staple in your collection! It is a perfect backdrop for layering and balances a necklace stack perfectly. This one features a ball-style chain which I love because it is different than a typical chain, and gold discs. It can be adjusted from 14″ to 16″ which makes all the difference, trust me! Estimate: $200-400

Lot 14: I chose this lot as one of my favorites because there’s something sleek and modern about this gold bracelet. It can easily become your signature look and wouldn’t need anything else paired with it. It is done in 14k yellow gold and has a button-slide closure. Add to your wrist collection! Estimate: $400-700

Lot 17: A bold gold statement ring from Ippolita is one of the necessary staples for any jewelry box and this major ring is totally awesome. The shape is very modern and contemporary, complete in 18k yellow gold. There are overlapping layers to this ring, which makes it so interesting and the hammered finish is to-die-for. Estimate: $500-800

Lot 46: This lot is one that I will be bidding on personally, as I have a major crush on Victorian bracelets. What makes these extra special is that they look to be in amazing condition and both bracelets are still a pair (usually one gets lost along the way). At the time of engagement, the first bracelet of a matching two-piece set was presented to the bride-to-be. The bracelet would be worn up until the day of the wedding, at which point the second bracelet was also worn. These were often passed down from a mother to her daughters; the bracelet sets were sometimes separated, making the Victorian era sets that still remain intact a special and collectible treasure! Estimate: $400-700

Lot 51: I love a pretty sapphire and diamond ring, and this is such a great example of what happens when great design mixes with gorgeous gems. This ring is both a great everyday piece and can easily be dressed up or down. The diamonds are old mine cuts and total approximately 0.27 carats and the sapphires total about 2.46 carats. It is currently a size 6 and can surely be easily sized. Estimate: $400-700

Lot 54: Temple St. Clair is one of my favorite designers. I rarely see her pieces up for auction, so when there comes a time when I do, I make sure to bid. This pendant is one of her signature designs and features a relief of Cupid surrounded by a halo of multi-colored sapphires. Rainbow-hued jewels are such a trend and this piece captures that trend, but in a classic way. It can be added to your charm collection and worn as a talisman for protection. Estimate: $900-1200

Lot 55: This shade of blue is my favorite kind of sapphire — often called cornflower blue. I love the setting of this ring from lot 55…it is 18k white gold and has filigree details. I immediately thought of this ring as an alternative engagement ring, as sapphire makes for a great everyday stone. And since it measures around three carats, it is the perfect size! Estimate: $600-900

Lot 59: This necklace is so fun! I’m a huge sucker for lapis and not only does this piece highlight the wonderful gemstone, it shows it cut in a unique way. Each lapis is cut in a geometric marquise shape, with a hollow middle. The central focal point features diamonds and really is a head-turner. I wonder what it would look like layered with other necklaces? Estimate: $300-500

Lot 104: Lastly, I had to include this lot because I know so many of my followers are huge tourmaline fans. You’re getting all colors of this luscious gemstone in this necklace and it comes with a matching pair of earrings. The necklace has both gold beads and tourmaline beads, as well as tourmaline drops. I bet it looks incredible when worn and definitely a statement-maker. Estimate: $300-500
