Our last NY NOW feature is Elaine Chong Designs! I had the utmost pleasure getting to meet Elaine and see her world in jewelry form. The movement that is incorporated into her work is quite thoughtful. She makes these “moving eye” pendants that feature different spheres of gems that kilter amongst the enclosed gold. On the outside, there are vibrant patterns and colors, since she also is a painter and using enamel within her jewelry designs is a defining attribute. Some of the pendants are polished on the front or with an ombré color, with the focus on the movement of the gem-ball. Since the show, Elaine has been working on some new designs, one of which I think is really cool – a bangle bracelet with a moving gem…I can’t wait to see more from her!
