Another year has gone by and we are partnering with May Is Gold Month for the fifth consecutive year to celebrate all things karat gold (and yes, that is karat with a “k” and not carat, because that would mean gemstone weight). If you peek inside my jewelry box you will undeniably notice that I love yellow gold, almost exclusively. That’s why it is always so natural to partner with May Is Gold Month because we’ve been admirers, promoters, and true fans of this richly historic metal since we could remember.

Since last year, I’ve added a few important karat gold pieces to my every day jewelry wardrobe. I consider these to be investment pieces, to last a lifetime and be eventually passed down through generations. That is the underlying beauty of karat gold–surely it looks wonderful from the outside, but it is magical and sentimental on the inside. A piece of karat gold jewelry can evoke more feelings than a smell or written words…and can last longer than a memory or a relationship. These pieces of jewelry are more than just ornamental decor, they are ways of expressing ourselves through accessorizing and jewelry can speak louder than words.

Just like last year, I’ll be delving into each gold jewelry trend and exploring, sharing and teaching ways we can make the most of each one. Follow along on social media and use the hashtag #ShowMeYourGold all month long! Can’t wait to see everyone’s styles, ideas and ways of mixing and matching their gold jewelry! Here’s the list of this year’s trends so you can start planning your posts–we will tackle one each week.

Week One: Wrist Ornaments

Have you ever taken a necklace and wrapped it around your wrist to create a multi-layered bracelet?! Creativity at its finest. The 14k yellow gold San Marco bracelet is a piece I’ve recently added to my personal collection and it has become my signature bracelet, as it rarely leaves my wrist. I challenge you to invest in a bold gold bracelet–there are so many different styles out there! You’ll thank me later!

Week Two: Jumpin’ Through Hoops

If there is one single piece of jewelry I can easily add to an outfit to make it more fun, it is a pair of hoops! The ones I’m wearing here (the largest pair) were recently given to me by my grandma when my family and I visited her last fall. She was very excited when she heard me talk about how perfectly lightweight yet bold they were–so she gave them to me! You can recreate this look by stacking similar looking hoops on one ear–if they graduate in size slightly like mine, the look is even better!

Week Three: Finger Frills

To create this look, I took two very similar coiled snake rings that are both 14k yellow gold, and pulled them apart gently to uncoil them. I then paired those with an elongated and bold ring–this one is by Lu Rebuffo and is part of his Halo Collection which is inspired by the celestial skies. I challenge you to take some plain gold pieces that one might consider “boring” and make them exciting!

Week Four: Neck Jazz

The jewelry category of “gold necklaces” is one that I seem to be unknowingly adding to, as I have been searching for an ideal neck stack. I had an epiphany while visiting a jewelry store on one of my jewelry road trips last summer, and I realized the importance of a “fringe” necklace to balance out a necklace layer. That’s why these three “fringe” necklaces pictured here are my current favorites to embellish a plain chain-and-charm ensemble.

Week Five: Ear Decor

To say I’m still obsessed with ear cuffs and ear “hangers” would be an understatement (or maybe I think back to the terror I felt when I got my ear pierced at the age of four and my nervousness made me jump, and the earring ended up pointing straight downward, coming out the bottom of my lobe, YIKES). There are so many alternatives out there done in karat gold to decorate your ear without needing to get pierced. Have you tried the ear cuff trend?!

Week Six: Gold for Guys

My husband so generously volunteered for this week’s trend and this time around I wanted to focus on his ring stacking abilities (since he learned from me). He likes stacking his wedding bands and mixing metals. His advice to men out there wanting to stack rings? “I like wearing my rings on my ring and pinky fingers most. Something about those fingers makes them look even cooler.”
