Jewelry Gossip > White or Yellow gold?

Which do you prefer,White or Yellow Gold? I loved Yellow Gold forever even when people criticized me and said it was so 80s. Now its making a coming back. But lately I've be mixing both metals because it is a hot trend now. I will say this White is the right dinner party metal... What's your opinion??

Great question...I'm with you! I have always loved yellow gold until I started working at a jewelry store a few years ago on my summers off from college. I began liking white gold because of the contrast it had with some gemstones that couldn't be matched with yellow gold. Now I love both!

I used to be all white gold and now my opinion has definitely changed. I like mixed, and have decided my engagement/wedding bads are going to be yellow gold.

I definitely like the white gold. Back in time, I liked yellow one, but the white gold looks better on me than the yellow one. I think that we have to take in consideration this.

I'm always a yellow or rose gold girl as I'm soooooo pale that white gold/silver makes me look like a ghost! LOL. I agree that white look stunning but just not on me. :-( Happy that yellow seems to be making a comeback.

It depends on the stone and what it looks best in. But diamonds look good in any color .

I always like the way my pieces photographed in white gold, and preferred it in the pieces I wore, however as of late I have seen a real increase in orders for yellow gold pieces, perhaps yellow gold is gaining some real momentum!

Now that there is 20 karat white, and palladium whites that are nickel free, it's really easy to get excited about whites again. They do set off certain stones like no other metal.

Hoover & Strong proved long ago in their metals catalogue that chorine is dangerous to white prongs, so it's nice to have alternatives.

Question: what about the new silver palladium blends? I love the whiteness of silver--nothing is more reflective of light--but it's so soft. Argentium silver (made with germanium instead of copper) doesn't oxidize the same way, so it's interesting stuff.

Cool site.

White gold is my everyday wear. For some reason I don't like the way yellow gold looks on my skin. Yet I wear yellow gold when I have meetings at work or anything formal because the yellow gold jewelry I own is very dainty and low key.

I prefer rose gold, though I probably only own about 3 rings in rose gold. My jewelry is pretty evenly split between gold and white gold. It seems to me, though, that some gemstones appear to look better (brighter) in certain metals.

At Seabourn Pearls (http://seabournpearls.com/blog) we use both depending on the type of pearl, the color of the pearl and client preference. I tend to use more white gold with Tahitian strands and studs and more yellow gold on the gold South Sea pearls and more exotic baroque freshwater pearls from China. But the price of gold has encouraged us to seek alternatives. We made a large purchase of tarnish-proof rhodium plated silver clasps last year and we use them in most of our strands priced under $3,000.
