Gem Gossip Favorites: Earring Stacks from Iconery

Creating an earring look is so much more than just grabbing and going. If you've ever tried, you know there is almost an art to it, where balance is important and symmetry is everything. To make matters even more intense, everyone's ears and earlobes are quite different and everyone's hair styles are too. I've styled three different earring stories with my personal taste, factoring in what works for me (both my hair and number of holes I have in my lobes). Iconery has a fantastic selection of earrings, especially since each one is hot and covetable at the moment. The online haven of unique jewels just launched last year and has been on my radar. Their hashtag #KeepItReal says it all--"Because life's too short to wear fake jewelry." Finally someone who has read my mind and gets it!! This has been my mantra since I knew the difference between the two (I would say roughly 7th grade). Iconery is also changing the game by bringing 3D printing into the mix and adding pieces they've designed themselves to their website. You MUST check out their site because I assure you, you will discover pieces and designers you will LOVE! Besides, the two founders, Andrea Linett and Ivka Adam, are like a Who's Who amongst cool girl-bosses.

There truly are so many different combinations one could create using Iconery's inventory. So sit back and have fun picking out your next new earring look that you'll be wearing all the time!

Portrait of a Woman

The first look I've styled starts off with some points that I've learned and figured out about my personal style with earrings. The first being I love studs! Studs are extremely comfortable and since I have three holes, I can easily stack three smaller, less expensive earrings to create one big look. Another important tip is to try to create a theme--here I've used black diamonds as my theme. Another thing, which is probably most important and has been consistent throughout all my three looks, is to use a long or elongated earring in the first hole. With my face shape and hair style, this look has always stayed tried and true. I love the elongated look of the Elisabeth Bell Thorn earrings in 14k yellow gold. For the black diamond ensemble, I went with a simple line of black diamonds in the ear climber by Anne Sisteron paired with the Mara Carrizo Scalise diamond pave earrings.

Earrings used:

Elisabeth Bell Thorn earrings in 14k yellow gold, Price: $495 for a pair

Anne Sisteron black diamond ear climber in 14k yellow gold, Price: $130 for a single

Mara Carrizo Scalise diamond pave earrings in 14k yellow gold, Price: $540 for a pair

Portrait of a Woman

My second earring look is an instant favorite!  I just recently tried threader earrings for the first time and I'm completely obsessed. These gold horn and diamond threader earrings by Anne Sisteron are killer. So edgy from the get-go, the only way of making them any cooler than they are--adding a very small hoop stud, like these Luv AJ beaded hoop earrings. I've been on the hunt for a small pair of hoop studs after wearing a pair I stole from my mom's jewelry box back in college that were costume jewelry that looked almost identical to these! I wore them everyday! And sometimes two is better than one, so in this case I stacked two of the same hoop earring side-by-side. Love this look.

Earrings used:

Anne Sisteron threader earrings in 14k yellow gold, Price: $545 for a pair

Luv AJ beaded hoops in 14k yellow gold, Price: $295 for a pair

Portrait of a Woman

My third earring stack infuses a trend that I've been incorporating more and more into my look--it basically takes one ear and loads it up, leaving the other ear bare.  This is what I had in mind for this third look. To accentuate the ear that is loaded with earrings, I would pin up tightly one side of my hair to show off my earring look and leave the other half long, oftentimes covering up the bare lobe. I love the juxtaposition of the long, pointed dangle of the Brady Legler pencil drop earrings done in 14k gold and diamonds, and the diamond hardware stud earrings by Anne Sisteron. Again, I've gone with the long earring in the first hole and two studs in the others--edgy yet sophisticated.

Earrings used:

Brady Legler Pencil Drop earrings in 14k yellow gold and diamonds, Price: $4,100 for a pair

Anne Sisteron diamond hardware studs in 14k yellow gold, Price: $310 for a pair

All earrings can be found at Iconery. This post was brought to you in collaboration with Iconery.

I've been staring at earrings for days on end. Why, you may ask?! Well it is the last piece of the puzzle for my wedding day look that has yet to be decided upon, and the earrings will be the pièce de résistance. I've had my eye out for some dramatic, long drops and I couldn't help but notice how many amazing pairs of drop earrings are in the upcoming Signature Sale this month from Heritage Auctions. In fact, out of the 535 lots in September's sale, there are 155 which include earrings. Some of these pieces are the most exquisitely crafted items I've seen--earrings from Cartier, Bvlgari, Van Cleef & Arpels, to name a few. The assortment that caught my eye, seen above, all have a drop style to them, as well as some mesmerizing colors. Bold yellows thanks to citrine and yellow diamonds, soft blues thanks to sapphire, tanzanite, apatite, turquoise and chalcedony. Any of these pairs of earrings would be great contenders for my wedding day look. Whomever is the high bidder of these will have some timeless earrings that will surely give anyone Earring Envy!

Don't miss these earrings and many other lots in Heritage Auctions' Signature Sale which takes place September 28th, 2015! You can bid at their Dallas showroom in person or online. Check out this page for more details on how to bid.

Lot 54015: This pair of earrings takes one of my favorite earring motifs--the domed, gemstoned design--and makes it twice as nice with two domes full of gems. The smaller dome is positioned on the ear lobe as the larger dome dangles below. The earrings are set with a unique combination of gemstones--topaz and tsavorite--which are cut in multiple shapes (ovals and rounds), all set in 18k pink gold.  Such a stunning pair! Estimate: $5,000-7,000

Lot 54089: A waterfall of cascading sapphires and diamonds create the look of this pair of earrings by Chanel. They are from the La Pluie Collection and are set with multi-cut colored diamonds and sapphires done in 18k pink gold! Also good to note that these are designed as clip-ons, so no need to have your ears pierced to wear them. Estimate: $25,000-35,000

Lot 54144: Designed by Palmiero, this ultra-modern pair of earrings takes a forever-known motif--the heart--and puts a fun spin on it.  All these colors you are seeing are diamonds, believe it or not, and they are set in an abstract way giving the earrings splashes of color.  Set in 18k white gold and designed for pierced and non-pierced ears, so the option is beneficial for everyone! Estimate: $6,000-8,000

Lot 54155: Some Italian flair with these earrings by Bvlgari--set in 18k white gold and cabochons of bold colors. The gemstones are pink tourmaline, blue topaz, citrine, peridot and of course, diamonds!  What a killer combination! Love the design and they are sure to flatter any ear. Estimate: $5,000-7,000

Lot 54161: I picture these stunning earrings worn on a snowy holiday night out! The black diamonds and white diamonds cascade down from a central "snowflake" and measure 3.5 inches long.  They are set in 18k white gold and are by Palmiero. Total diamond weight is 7.12 carats approximately and includes both black and white. Estimate: $10,000-15,000

Lot 54171: An electric pair of sapphire and diamond dangle earrings by Piranesi. What makes the sapphires pop so much is the blackened 18k gold used. The total diamond weight is approximately 0.92 carats and the sapphire total weight is an eye-catching 10.21 carats!  Estimate: $5,000-7,000

Lot 54180: A punchy blue pair of bold dangle earrings will surely make you the center of attention. What gemstone is causing this incredible blue hue?! That is apatite! A gemstone that is lesser known to the public, but for gemstone collectors, they know this color far too well.  Even Set in 18k gold and totaling approximately 32 carats!!  Estimate: $5,000-7,000

Lot 54235: Three-tiers of beauty form this pair of long dangle earrings which measure 2 3/8 inches in length. The gemstones are chalcedony, tanzanite, and diamonds--such a soft and pretty combination. I can picture these looking fabulous in any season! Estimate: $3,000-4,000

Lot 54316: Bows are BIG--as in very popular, and these earrings set the tone with a feminine bow at the very top. All done in diamonds and 18k white gold by Frei. End-caps of teardrop shaped turquoise hang at the bottom, extending the earrings to a total length of 3 1/8 inches. These are for pierced ears only. Estimate: $3,500-4,500

Lot 79: an antique 14k yellow gold brooch with pearls and enamel work. I love this style of brooch, which generally dates back to the Victorian Era. These types of pins look fabulous on a suit jacket. Starting bid: $800

Lot 96: a ring duo consisting of a black sapphire and opal navette ring, both 14k yellow gold.  The uniqueness of these rings totally intrigues me.  The black sapphire has such a modernist, abstract look.  Starting bid: $220

Lot 98: an 18k gold antique bracelet set with a pearl and diamonds.  The design on this bracelet is incredible!  It is bold enough to be a statement piece and would look elegant on a wedding day.  Starting bid: $800

Lot 144: a diamond buckle ring, done in 18k gold with European hallmarks.  A good, retro buckle ring should be in everyone's collection!  So funky and cool!  This one is made really well.  Starting bid: $400

Lot 145: an 18k yellow gold enameled cigar band.  Although the enamel shows some damage, the overall look of the ring is still great.  I've always wanted a cigar band and the red enamel against the yellow gold is just classic! Starting bid: $350

Lot 148: a Retro, 1940s buckle ring set with diamonds and rubies.  If you miss out of the first buckle ring, this auction gives you another shot with this gorgeous retro piece!  Such a stunner.  Starting bid: $260

Lot 151: a pair of diamond skull stud earrings in 14k yellow gold.  For the badass in you, these skull studs are the subtle hint you've always wanted!  So cool!  Starting bid: $200

Lot 152: an 18k yellow gold textured finish bangle bracelet set with sapphires.  I can't imagine a cooler bangle bracelet right now--which my readers know, my Ankh obsession is real and I've never seen it done in a bracelet before!  Starting bid: $550

Lot 175: a large graduated malachite bead necklace.  Malachite is one of my favorite gemstones, and this necklace has a big, bold look to it...would be something that turns heads, for sure!  Starting bid: $50

Lot 179: an Art Deco enamel camel brooch set with diamonds, sapphires, and emeralds.  Suddenly, I am a huge fan of camels!!  This brooch is adorable and a true sentiment of the 1920s.  How grand it is! Starting bid: $1,000

Lot 217: a 14k yellow gold Old Mine cut diamond elongated ring.  This is my pick of the entire auction!  Everyone knows of my affinity with antique diamond elongated rings--this one is a beauty!  Starting bid: $750

Lot 326: an 18k yellow gold Art Deco gemstone and diamond ring.  This ring is outstanding!  The shape and outline of the piece is very unique, and whoever wins this ring is one very lucky person!  Starting bid: $1,000

Adorn Your Ears with Upcoming Fellows Auction on August 14th, 2014

119 141 192 232 238 264 284 290 319 428 500 503 515 590 602 635

The art of adornment for your ears has truly become one of the biggest trends for fashion in 2014.  With more and more holes in our ears, a whole new artform of styling earrings has emerged and a new demand for earrings. I love buying vintage or antique earrings and mixing and matching to find a cool look.  Contrasting colors using gemstones is a fun tip, or try an all gold look, using earrings with no stones at all.  You can play around with earring length, using all studs or dangles, or even wear one dangle in one ear, and not the other!  The possibilities are endless, and with auctions like Fellows, you can splurge on several lots and create your own earring wardrobe only after a few winning bids!

Don't forget the earring essentials--like a pair of diamond stud earrings or pearl stud earrings--those are must-haves and are frequently found at Fellows Auctions.  Vintage finds, like a cool pair of fan-like Retro earrings from the 1940s are also must-haves!  Some gemstone dangle earrings are fun to wear with an updo--there are several offerings in this month's auctions.

Above are my favorite earring lots offered at Fellows August 14th, 2014 Antique & Modern Auction:

Lot 119 a pair of diamond ear pendants--wear as a pair to a formal occasion or be edgy and wear only one!

Lot 141 a pair of bezel set diamond earrings, each approximately 1/3 ct. which is an ideal size

Lot 192 a pair of yellow diamond and onyx koala ear studs, these are fun and cutesy

Lot 232 a pair of sapphire and diamond stud earrings, these add a splash of color and refinery

Lot 238 a pair of moonstone and diamond stud earrings, quite whimsical and dainty perfect for an upper ear piercing

Lot 264 a designer pair of Chopard diamond earrings, because a signed piece is essential in your wardrobe

Lot 284 a pair of Links of London "Watch Over Me Moon" earrings, since celestial inspired jewelry is so popular

Lot 290 a pair of J-hoop diamond earrings by Theo Fennell, classic and super cool still being on the small side, but packed with diamonds

Lot 319 a pair of sapphire and diamond "halo" earrings, would look cool having both in one ear, with nothing in the other

Lot 428 a pair of diamond and topaz ear pendants in white gold, love the bright color of the topaz

Lot 500 a pair of sapphire and pearl ear drops, the fun dangling pearls can hang from many different holes and look great

Lot 503 a pair of emerald and pearl ear drops, the daintiness of a long chain earring is really on trend right now

Lot 515 a pair of antique emerald and diamond stud earrings, add some history to your ear with an antique pair

Lot 590 a pair of sapphire and diamond ear clips, these fan-shaped clips allow you to clip anywhere on your ear, no hole necessary

Lot 602 a pair of coral cameo earrings, which would fit perfectly in this dream I have where an entire ear is loaded with cameo ear studs

Lot 635 a pair of white cultured pearl stud earrings, which is a necessity in every girl's earring wardrobe
